Lisandro Guarcax was kidnapped, tortured, and assassinated on August 25, 2010. Our hearts are heavy with the loss of a visionary leader who worked to restore the dignity of the Maya worldview and Maya people through the arts. Music and arts festivals have been organized throughout Guatemala to celebrate his life and call for justice. NISGUA has coordinated an international paid ad campaign to denounce the murder and ask that the CICIG investigate.
